Power Yoga Workshop

What is Power Yoga?
Power Yoga is a general term to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to yoga postures done in a non-stop sequence. It encompasses physical strength, muscular endurance, stamina, flexibility and balancing ability.

The origin of Power Yoga came from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, a renowned Sanskrit scholar who inspired Western Yogis with his Ashtanga Yoga style and philosophies. The series requires more than physical endurance, it demands discipline, mental stability and concentration. Power Yoga is modified from the Ashtanga Yoga style to be more accessible for common people.

Yin Yoga Workshop

Date:

Time:

What is Yin Yoga?
This style of yoga focuses on the “Yin” elements of life. Yin Yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures for three to five minutes at a time. It is the ideal complement to more energetic “Yang” forms of Yoga such as Power Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, advanced balancing asanas.

A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. In this way it prepares the body and the mind for longer meditation practices. By drawing the student’s awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones a deep level of relaxed focus is achieved.

Flexibility is gained through holding the postures for at least 3 min and developing comfort in the asana. Practicing Yin Yoga is also a good way to release stress and calm the mind.

What will be covered in this 4 hr workshop?

  • What is Yin and Yang? (Theory)

  • The science of Yin Yoga (Theory)

  • Yin Yoga Practice

  • Analysis of asanas practiced, benefits of each pose and how to deepen into the pose

Who can attend?

Anyone, including beginners are welcomed.
